Blue Jays could sign $25 million All-Star after whiffing on Teoscar Hernández

The Toronto Blue Jays have missone on yet another star free agent. With Teoscar Hernández opting to sign back with the Dodgers, the Blue Jays are still in search of a big bat to add to their lineup.

While listing moves the Blue Jays could make after missing out on Hernández, FanSided’s Chris Landers urged the team to sign San Diego Padres All-Star Jurickson Profar.

“At this point, there simply aren’t all that many impact outfielders left on the market, and Atkins doesn’t have the sort of farm system to facilitate a big trade,” wrote Landers. “If the Jays are going to find a left fielder (who could also help plug holes in the infield in a pinch), Profar isn’t a bad fit.”

Profar was once one of the best prospects in baseball. However, it took some time for him to break out. He is 31 years old and 2024 was his best season. He was an All-Star for the first time with a .280/.380/.839 slash line and 24 home runs. He won his first career Silver Slugger as well. Spotrac projects Profar to sign a two-year, $25 million deal in free agency.

The Blue Jays may not be able to get many free agents to actually sign with them. Targeting free agents without too large a market could be their best shot. They have already successfully added one star, Andrés Giménez, through a trade. After missing on Juan Soto and Teoscar Hernández their odds of landing Anthony Santander seem low.

Profar might be a perfect fit for the Blue Jays. With other teams focusing on bigger stars like Santander and Luis Robert Jr., the Blue Jays could strike a deal with Profar hoping he can continue playing like he did in 2024.
